Sun Damage in South Florida: What Actually Fades Dark Spots

Living in South Florida is wonderful for almost everything except your pigment. Years of sun, even the incidental kind through a car window, show up as dark spots, uneven tone and a general muddiness long before wrinkles become the main concern.

The good news is that pigmentation responds well to treatment. The catch is that it comes straight back if you skip the last step.

Start by knowing what you have

Not all dark spots are the same, and treating the wrong kind makes it worse.

Sun spots are discrete brown patches from accumulated UV exposure. They respond well and predictably to treatment.

Melasma is different. It appears as larger, blotchier patches, often symmetric across the cheeks or forehead, and it is driven by hormones as much as sun. Melasma can worsen with heat and aggressive treatment, so it needs a gentler, slower approach. Getting this distinction right is the single most important part of the plan.

Post-inflammatory pigmentation is the mark left behind after a spot or irritation. It usually fades on its own with time and protection.

What works, roughly in order

Medical-grade skincare is the foundation, not an afterthought. Ingredients that regulate pigment production do most of the long-term work, and no in-office treatment holds without them.

Chemical peels such as the Perfect Derma Peel lift existing pigment efficiently. Most patients see meaningful change from one, with better results from a short series.

Microneedling improves overall tone and texture, and helps the products you use at home penetrate better.

HydraFacial with brightening serums maintains results between the heavier treatments.

The part everyone skips

Sunscreen, every day, reapplied. Not just at the beach.

We are being direct about this because it decides whether your investment lasts. You can clear pigmentation beautifully and undo the entire result in one unprotected summer. A mineral SPF 30 or higher, applied every morning and reapplied when you are outdoors, is the difference between a result that holds and one that does not.

Timing matters here

We plan pigment treatment around your calendar. Peels and sun exposure do not mix, so if the next month is full of beach days, we would rather start after. Tell us what your season looks like and we will build the plan around it.
