The under-eye area is the hardest place on the face to treat well. The skin is the thinnest anywhere on the body, there is very little fat beneath it, and mistakes are visible in every photograph.
PRF is one of the gentlest tools we have for it.
What PRF actually is
Platelet-rich fibrin. We take a small sample of your blood, spin it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets and growth factors, and inject that concentrate into the area we are treating.
Nothing synthetic is involved. It is your own biology, concentrated and put where it is useful.
Why it suits the under-eye
Traditional filler under the eyes can work beautifully, but the margin for error is small. Place too much, or too superficially, and it can look puffy or take on a bluish cast. Because the skin is so thin, it shows.
PRF behaves differently. Rather than adding volume, it improves the tissue itself: skin quality, thickness and texture over time. For patients whose main complaint is crepey, thin or dark skin rather than a hollow, it is often the better answer.
What it will not do
If you have significant hollowing, PRF alone will not fill it. Growth factors improve tissue quality, they do not replace lost volume. In that case filler, or a combination, makes more sense.
It is also not a one-visit treatment. Most patients need a short series, and results build over weeks rather than appearing immediately.
And no injectable treats dark circles caused purely by pigment or by genetics rather than shadow. We will tell you honestly at your consultation which type you have, because it changes what will actually help.
Recovery
Expect mild swelling and possible bruising for a few days. Because the material comes from you, allergic reaction is not a concern.
The honest summary
PRF is the right choice for patients who want a natural route, who are nervous about filler in a delicate area, or whose under-eye concern is about skin quality rather than volume. It asks for patience and a series of visits, and it rewards both.
