These get grouped together as facials, which does neither any favours. They work in completely different ways and solve different problems.
HydraFacial: cleaning and hydrating the surface
A HydraFacial cleanses, exfoliates, extracts and hydrates in a single pass using a vortex device. Think of it as the most thorough clean your skin can get, finished with serums pushed into freshly exfoliated skin.
What it is good for: congestion, dullness, blackheads, dehydration, and that general lack of glow. It is superb before an event, because there is no downtime and skin looks immediately better.
What it will not do: change your skin's structure. It works on the surface, and the results last a few weeks rather than months.
Microneedling: rebuilding from underneath
Microneedling creates thousands of tiny controlled channels in the skin. Your body responds by producing collagen and elastin as it repairs them. The result is structural change built over months.
What it is good for: acne scarring, enlarged pores, fine lines, uneven texture, and overall firmness. This is the treatment that changes how your skin is built rather than how it looks this week.
What it asks of you: downtime and patience. Expect to look sunburned for a day or two, and expect real results after a series of three to six sessions rather than after one.
How to tell which you need
Ask yourself what bothers you when you look closely in the mirror.
If it is dullness, congestion or dryness, and you want to look good this weekend, that is a HydraFacial.
If it is texture, scarring, pores or fine lines, and you are willing to invest a few months, that is microneedling.
Why many patients do both
They complement each other rather than compete. A common plan is a microneedling series to rebuild the skin, with HydraFacials in between to keep it clear and glowing while the collagen work happens underneath.
We can also add PRF or exosomes to microneedling to accelerate the healing and amplify the result. At your consultation we will look at your skin and tell you honestly which one it is actually asking for.
